I hope today's blog was not to boring, but I guess what I'm wanting to show everybody is that it is more than just going to the gym.  Keeping a record of what you are doing is important.  Being able to go back to see what is working for you and what didn't work.  Monitoring your daily or weekly progress helps with achieving your goals. Keeping a Food Journal gives you a daily visual of what you are putting into your body.  If this something you are wanting to do, I recommend that you start keeping a journal or even a blog.  It helps you with  keeping it real and being true to yourself.

Slacking

So I have received several e-mails and texts messages, asking what has been going on with the blog.  Well, since I have been honest for the beginning I will be honest now.  I have been slacking on my duties of writing the blog.  I will get back to the slacking part in a minute.  I want to give you all a quick update on my progress.  Two weeks ago, I had set a goal to be under 300 lbs.  I weighed in at 300.0 lbs. which was great.  This week I weighed in at 296.8 which is amazing.  I now have lost just under 24 lbs. since the beginning of this program.  But more importantly I feel better, look better, and I am stronger.
So back to the slacking, I have decided that we all have a right to be slackers about something.  As long as what you are slacking about is not effecting your health or those that you love.  I may not write on my blog everyday, but know that what I'm trying to accomplish is a lifestyle change that doesn't have room for slackers or slacking.

Thanks to all of you that read my blog and being a part of this commitment I have made to you and most of all my Family.

You've Got Two Choices this Week:  "Get Busy Livin".....OR...."Get Busy Dyin"

Hope everybody has a great week,

Saturday Weigh-In

I had a great work out this morning.  I feel better, I feel stronger, I feel like I can actually keep up with my kids.  I will keep it short, so last week I weighed in at 305 lbs, this week I'm proud to say that I'm at 302 lbs.  That makes it a total of 18 lbs. in three weeks.  My goal is to be under 300 lbs. before the next weigh-in on Saturday.

Finding Motivation

These past couple of weeks have been an emotional roller coaster.  I'm sorry that it has been a while since I last blogged.  I need the time to take in everything that happened the last few weeks.  I'm Happy to report that I lost one pound at the last weigh-in which brings my total for the three weeks to 15 pounds.  I'm hoping for better results tomorrow.
Last week I took a couple of days off from the gym, this week I have been back in the gym everyday.  Which brings me to my topic of discussion:  Finding Motivation. I'm sure if you have not used this saying you have heard it before: "I'm just not Motivated to do anything, right now." If I had a nickle for every time I said that I would be rich. Where do you find your motivation to do things? Whether it is going to the gym, taking care of things around your home, going to work, or doing something you enjoy.  For some of us it maybe our Family, for some it may be money, others it may be self-satisfaction.  I found a great article online about finding motivation I hope you can find the time to read it.  http://zenhabits.net/get-off-your-butt-16-ways-to-get-motivated-when-youre-in-a-slump/
So after reading I find myself doing most of these steps.  Especially number 6: commit publicly.  I don't want to let you guys down.  You guys play a major role in my motivation.
I will let you know how the weigh-in goes tomorrow. Regardless of the results, I'm feeling better and stronger than I did three weeks ago.  I have changed my cardio work out too include more intervals.  This morning I set a personal best on the treadmill, 3 miles in under 37 minutes.

I will leave you with this quote from one of the Everybody Loses Trainers:
"TODAY, LET'S BE BETTER. NOT PERFECT, JUST BETTER."

Thanks,

Stress Eating

Well, as you know from last Blog, my brother passed away.  It has been very stressful these past few days.  I have not been to the gym since Saturday nor have I been to work since last Friday.
I have read that the most stressful event a person can go through is the lost of a love one.  Which is why I want to talk about stress eating, I'm probably the biggest stress eater in the world.  These past few days I have been seeking my comfort foods like: Pizza, Cereal late at night, Mt. Dew, and larger protions.  I know that I can not continue eating like this, I have to find a solution to the problem and get back into the gym.  I found a website dedicated to stress eating: http://www.stresseating.com/ . If you get a chance check it out, there is alot of good information.

Stress Reduction - Stress Relief

Making Healthy Choices

by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
life without stressStress is to your emotional health as junk food is to your physical health. You need a certain amount of food to sustain your life, but overeating and eating the wrong foods are unhealthy and sometimes dangerous.
As you need food to live, you also need a certain amount of emotional stimulation, but unless you choose to live alone far from the reaches of civilization, you are bombarded daily with innumerable stressors (agents, conditions, or other stimuli that cause stress). You hear the daily woes of friends and family. Your job and your daily commute are filled with stress-causing agitation. Just a few minutes of the 11 o'clock news provides far more than your daily requirement of stressful emotional stimulation.
What to do?
1. Simplify your needs: Much of our stress is due to what we believe we need to have. Actually, we need very little - food, a roof over our head, companionship. The rest is all perceived need that causes stress. As a crazy, but everyday example, we get stressed that we don't have the money to finance a relaxing vacation trip. Suppose we just relaxed every day knowing that we don't need luxuries.
2. Simplify your obligations: Practice saying "NO." No, I won't babysit your parakeet. No, I won't work a double shift Sunday. No, I won't chair the fundraising drive. There is actually almost nothing that you must do. Everything in life is a choice. Break the habit of assuming that you need to do everything you are asked to do and watch your stress level go way down
3. Ask yourself what is the worst that can happen: Usually the worst isn't really so bad. For example, the worst your boss can ever do is to fire you, and if you hate your job, that would be a blessing in disguise. Is that worth getting angry or stressing over?
4. Don't be demanding: You ask someone to do something, they don't do it, and you get upset - raising your stress level. Suppose you asked less of other people? Your stress level would go way down. For example, you want your teenagers to keep their rooms tidy. For them, a structured living space is not a priority. Ask yourself whether getting angry and exerting your control is worth the high stress level that it causes you.
5. Mentally, prepare for failures: Your boss WILL be critical of your work. Your cell phone and computer WILL fail. The stock market WILL drop. There WILL be another terrorist attack or war. It is just life. If you are mentally prepared, you won't be surprised or get angry or stressed when the inevitable happens.
6. Mind your own business: Many of us get upset - and stressed - over the actions of others that are really none of our business. The lifestyle of others is NOT our business. Whether your adult son or daughter has a job, whether they married the "wrong" partner, whether your neighbor recycles, whether the man down the street watches adult movies or his wife is having an affair - these are NOT our business. Know that there is no single way that life is "supposed" to be. Demanding that life meet our expectations is a sure fire recipe for a miserable existence. Life is a game with no rules. Have NO Expectations of life. Stay in your own business and lower your stress and avoid anger.
7. Be grateful for what you have: Each of us has been infinitely blessed - beginning with the gift of life. Whatever may appear to be missing or broken on any particular day, our glass is not half full, it is 99.9% full. More practically, when we feel ungrateful, we become unhappy and stressed. When we choose to feel and express our gratitude, the act of feeling and speaking our thanks creates a happiness within us. The more we express our gratitude, the more we have for which to be grateful.
8. Make YOU your top priority: Your ONLY responsibility in life is to your own happiness. Lower your stress and raise your joy by focusing on yourself. Today and every day, take time to celebrate your life - whether an hour's meditation in a quiet natural space, or a brief moment's conscious pause to breathe deeply and celebrate gratitude for your life.

Jan 29, 2011

Today was a weigh-in day.  I had worked very hard this entire week.  Increased my cardio and changed my circuit trianing workouts.  So on Saturday, I went to the gym for the Bootcamp workout, with one of the Everybody Loses Trainers, it was a sluggish workout for me, probably bacause I had trained very hard on Friday and had not given my body time to rest.  The weigh-in comes after the workout, the previous week I had lost 12lbs, I stepped up on the scale only to see disappointment I had only lost 2 lbs it was at 306 lbs.  I was confused I had trained hard all week, and my diet was nearly perfect. I then I remembered to stop thinking negative and look at the positive.  I was able to increase my workouts because I'm feeling better and stronger.  Also, it may be 2lbs. this week , but it is 14lbs in two weeks that is incredible. The only thing I'm going to do different is change the days I circuit train with the days I do cardio.  This is a Life Change that is not going to happen over night.
Thanks to everybody for your thoughts and prayers.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Sad Day

Sorry, I miss my blog yesterday. I had a great workout, I put together a ten station circuit training program for next couple of weeks.  If yesterday is any indication, I think this is going to be a good workout for me.
Yesterday, was a very sad day for me, I found out that one of my childhood hero's had passed away. Growing-up I would always watch him, thinking when I get older I wanted to be just like him. He was the one boy who could do everything in my eyes, he played football and baseball. He was the best.  Fast forward to our adult life, I would not be the person I am today without the help and encouragement of him to take the right steps in the right direction.  We grew apart over the past couple of years. It had been over a year and a half since we last spoke, I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to talk with him before he passed. I Love My Brother, and I'm going to miss him. May you Rest in Peace, Phillip D. Anderson II.

Addictive Behavior

Wow, I had a great workout this morning, thanks in part to one of the Everybody Loses trainers. She suggested that I try something new for my cardio.  "get your cardio in in 45 minutes (versus 60 or more) and make sure you include 3-5 hard intervals that last anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes."  What a difference it made this morning!!
I have been labeled by people in my life as someone who has an addictive behavior.  So I decide to Google "What is an Addictive Behavior?  Answer: Addictive behavior is any activity, substance, object, or behavior that has become the major focus of a person's life to the exclusion of other activities, or that has begun to harm the individual or others physically, mentally, or socially.  Ok, sounds like they may have been right.  (LOL).  Here's a list: Fast Foods (eating out), tobacco (Cigarettes and Copenhagen), Caffeine, there is probably more on the list if you ask the right people. Lucky for me I have never been addicted to Alcohol or Drugs, that would be crazy, I mean those types of addictions could ruin my life, right. Little did I know that my other addictions where beginning to take a toll on my life.  As long as I was not doing anything illegal I thought it was ok.
First, let me make this statement, I'm not a therapist of any sort.  Everything shared here is my opinion and my opinion alone. (LOL).
What I have learned in the past couple of months is that alot of my addictions were nothing more than Mind Over Matter.  I would tell myself that I had to have 44oz. Mt. Dew before work every morning, I had to have Copenhagen every morning first thing, I was convinced that I owned stock in all fast foods restaurants and if I own stock I must eat at all of them.  Here is one I'm sure we have all heard before: "I have to have a cup of Coffee before I can start my day" And as with most addictions, I enjoyed all of them.  I enjoyed sipping down an ice cold Mt. Dew, while having a chew of tobacco, heading for a fast food restaurant to eat. I loved it. I was also blinded and dumb founded to think that I was going to be ok. So, What changed all this for me, you would think having a son would change it, having an amazing woman in my life would change it, being a PE teacher would change it, nope none of these things convinced me to change.  There is only one thing that could make me change, only one person.  And that person is ME, Timothy Carroll Anderson. It was not until I decided to make a change in my life that I have be able to control my addictive behaviors.  I'm proud to say that it has been almost 10 weeks since I have used Copenhagen and 4 days of being soda free, it has been over 20 years since I have smoked cigarettes. I have not eaten at a Fast Food Restaurant since June of 2010.

Simple Day!!!

So today has been awesome!!!  I was up early, got to the gym in time, had an amazing workout which led to an amazing day.  I forgot to mention that during the snow days and weekend I had at least one 44 oz of Mt. Dew a day.  But I'm happy to report that I have been Soda free now for three days.  Whenever I start to crave one I think about what Bob from the Biggest Loser said "Stop drinking your Calories," I'm working to hard right now to waste it on SODA!!!!
Has anybody ever watched the MTV show " I Use to Be Fat", I have now watched two shows from start to finish.  It is amazing the transformation these people have made in the short period.  It is very encouraging to see real people, accomplish their goals.

I can't go back to yesterday - because I was a different person then.

Routines

Today started off very slow but ended with a BANG!!!  I'm a routine driven person, there has to be routine for everything I do.  I'm not OCD, or ODD, or ADD, or ADHD.  I just like to do things a certain way.  And if they don't go that way my whole day is off.  Well this morning things did not go my way. I was late getting to the gym. When I did get to the gym all the treadmills were taken, so I had to use the elliptical which is not part of my routine.  I got to work 5 minutes later than usual, I had to park further away from the building.  I was late for morning duties. My whole work day was just off.  When I was leaving work I was looking for every excuse to stop by QT (convenient store-similar to Tom Thumbs) to buy a comfort food. I guess I thought it would get me back on my routine.  One of my co-workers told me I would regret doing it. So instead of stopping by QT, I went home and got myself back on my routines and had a very productive evening.  I continued working on our basement, I was able to frame in the closet in the laundry room and hung a few sheets of drywall.
So, this what I have decided, I'm not going to allow my days to dictated by certain routines.  I'm going to try to keep a positive outlook on every situation.

Being Mentally Fit

First let me say Thank You, Thank You and Thank You to all my friends and family who have taking there time to read my blog.  It is very encouraging to see how many of you have stopped by to read my thoughts while I'm on this personal journey to over come my weight problem.
I've had an amazing, awesome, wonderful, incredible, and beautiful day!!!!!!!  I was up and ready to go at 5:00 a.m.. while at the gym I continued my circuit training.  I'm excited about learning new exercises that give me a total body workout.  Whoever thought of the kettle bell routines is a genius.  I'm looking forward to just cardio in the morning.
I'm learning that it just as important to be Mentally fit as it is to be Physically fit.  Have you ever met a personal trainer that is angry or mad all the time? (Jillian Michaels does not count, she is sooooo HOT).  Having a postive mind set before, during, and after a workout is going to determine how well you perform that day. Think about it how many Fat people do you know that do Yoga or  Meditate, I can not think of one, I'm sure there is some I just don't know them.Whether it is in the gym, at work, and more importantly with your family, thinking positive will dictate the outcome. You know the old saying, "you are what you eat" well here is a new one, "you are what you Think."

You must do the things you think you cannot do.

Sunday Jan. 23, 2011 Choices

I decided to take the day off from the gym. But the day was very  productive, Mary and I are continuing to work on finishing our basement.  I think we are finally finished with all the framing. What has been two years in the making, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Since we started in the summer of 09 we have put in two bedrooms, bathroom, TV room,  storage room, workroom and today we finshed framing the laundry room.
The other day after shoveling snow for what seemed like hours, I was very hungry.  I wanted something fast and instant.  I had to make a choice, Subway sounded great, Quizno's was close, and then there's my favorite sandwhich shop Jimmie Johns right down the road.  Oh, I forgot there was also the choice of going over to my mother in-laws and having soup and salad.  I was not leaning toward soup and salad, I was hungry and wanted food instantly. You guessed it we ended up at my mother in-laws for some soup and salad.  I could have made a choice not to go to her house, but I knew she would really enjoy our company.  I could have made a choice to eat something else, but I would have missed out on some of the best homemade chicken and veggie soup I have ever had in my entire life, it was very delicious.  I'm glad I made the right choice.

Talk later off to watch my step-daughter play basketball.

This Morning's Weigh-in

At last weeks intial weigh-in I was at 319.8 lbs.  This Morning I weighed in at 308.0 lbs.  Thanks to everybody who has been encouraging me.  I will continue to keep Ya'll (my southern roots coming out) posted.

Mary, has hidden the scale from me.

Thanks,
Tim

Act of Kindness

I had another day off from work, this will make it a four day weekend .  The great thing is that I did not use it as an excuse not to go to the gym. Not only did I get to the gym but I was able to go with Mary, it is truely a blessing to be able to workout with not only me wife but also my best-friend.  She is my No.1 fan and keeps me motivated!!

So the final snow total was 9.5 inches, I have never seen that much snow at one-time.  It is beautiful to look at especially at night, looks like the lights are on outside.  So, yesterday after shoveling our walkways and cleaning off the cars, Mary and I decided to take a little ride around the neighborhood to look at all the snow that had fallen.  While driving I told Mary we needed to do a random Act of Kindness.  She thought is would be a great thing to do, so we dicided to find somebody to help. After driving around and thinking, I knew exactly who we could help.  We have some friends that live across town from us, the husband works out of town two months at a time and the wife is a stay home mom with three little ones under-five.  It took us about 30 minutes to remove the snow from the car and sidewalk. The exercise was great, but the feeling of being able to help someone else was priceless.
I encourage everyone to perform a Random Act of Kindness. If you get a chance check out this article.

Snow Day!!!!! Excuses

For those who do not know, I teach Elementary P.E. in St. Louis, Mo. So, I got the phone call late last night that I did not have to go to work the next day, SNOW DAY!!!  I thought I was going to get to sleep-in, but my internal alarm clock did not get the message.  I was up at 5:00 a.m. looking out the window at 8+ inches of snow on the ground.  It was a Beauiful Sea of White spread across neighborhood.  I would not be able to go to the Gym in the morning.
Which brings me too Excuses.  Most of my adult life I have found excuse after excuse as to why I have not done something. Whether it is going to the gym, cutting the grass, dishes, laundry, cooking, homework, go to work or school, the list is endless. I told Mary that today was going to a lazy day. I found an excuse not to do anything. I realized mid morning that I was making an excuse not to be active.  I also realized that if I wanted to get out of my house I was going to have to shovel snow.  Not only did I shovel snow at my house but I also shoveled snow at my mother in-laws, and a neighbors house.  When I was done I realized that I got a great workout just from shoveling snow.  My legs, arms, back and shoulders are a little sore.
I want to stop making excuses for not doing things. Start Seeing the Positive, Take Responsibility, Find a Solution, Stay Focused on my Goals, and Be Accountable. This journey starts with me and making excuses is no longer an option.

Talk to ya later,
Tim
